Puxing PX-777+ Explained (in English)

March 25th, 2007 by wd5gnr

The latest craze around here: the cheap imported handy talkies you can find on eBay. Local hams have bought Jingtong, Linton, Puxing, and a few more I can’t spell off hand.

I like the Puxing. It is FCC approved and has a lithium ion battery. It does cost a few dollars more than some of the cheaper radios, but it is still way under $100 shipped and works like a champ. The biggest flaw is the very poor manual.

So I took notes about what I know (and I what I could decypher out of the manual). You can find it in the articles section. A great radio at a great price!

If you know something I’ve missed, pass it along and I’ll add it to the article.

Not an error: a feature. When programmed through computer you don’t see channel names by default, as you said in your article. However, you can make channel names visible through menu -> name -function.

I am having trouble with the Puxing program with an error message coming up each time I select then try to start the program saying “An unsupported operation was attempted” The same happens when trying to open a new page from File,New. I seem to be able to upload ok with the progress meter and led flickering but no frequency page is displayed Tried 2 different computers, same fault. Any clues? Thanks Geoff

Dear Hotsolder, without your page I’d still be scratching my head. Thanks. I deleted channel 01. How do I get it back??
Also when I set the ctcss code for a repeater on channel 2 it is the same then on channel one and disables channel 1 from functioning.
Also, the cable it came with is for the old printer port type. Is there a usb or usb adapter I can use? Thanks for any and all help.

Hi, I’ve just bought 4 of these 777+ and very inpressed, considering how much my VX-7Rs cost!

Just learning how to use these, as you say, the manual is a little limited, but not bad. I can’t figure out how to get channel names to display after I’ve entered them in self programming mode. And I can’t figure out how to get ANI to display on Rx when the other unit Tx.

Any other resources you know about for these rigs would be most welcome.

Brock, cable that came with mine is std RS232 serial - probably any USBSerial adaptor would work. I’m going to try my K3 USB cable later if I get the chance before take these little puppies (&&&+) on summer vamp with 30 other little puppies (Scouts)
